rentzsch.tumblr.com: CS is not for me
Weeding out entrants has a noble intent to help students discover that computer science isn’t for them at an early stage, however it is insular and conceited.
Many — perhaps most — entrants will do well to jump directly into the deep end of the computer science pool. However room should be allowed for those who want to splash around in the shallow end first.
This sort of thinking assumes the instructors/professors primary motivation isn’t serf serving, mainly the development of future grad students to do grunt work for them. Why would a professor burden themselves with learning a new language when there already exists a structure for training potential assistants in the language they already know and use in their research?
